1. About this policy

This policy explains how personal information is handled for the MiseEnList iPhone app, MiseEnList.com and its support service.

For support or privacy questions, email support@miseenlist.com. This policy does not replace the policies of Apple, recipe websites or services you choose when exporting information.

2. Information on your device

The app stores recipes and notes, meal plans, shopping lists, purchase and price history, food dates, household member names and preferences on your device. Receipt records can include the original image or PDF, recognised text, retailer, purchase date, product details and amounts. Originals may contain additional details printed by the retailer.

Receipt text recognition and barcode scanning run on your iPhone. Receipt images and text are not sent to a MiseEnList server or an external recognition service. The app does not use a remote AI service to process them.

Solo use does not require a MiseEnList account. The app does not include advertising, analytics or third-party crash-reporting SDKs. Apple may process diagnostics or TestFlight feedback under your Apple settings and its own terms; feedback or reports you explicitly send may be made available to the developer.

3. Optional shared Homes

If you create or join a shared Home, its records and attachments are stored using Apple CloudKit’s private sharing facilities. Shared content includes recipes, plans, shopping lists, household details, food dates, receipts, receipt images and PDFs, and price history.

People who accept your invitation can access the shared content. Members with editing access can change it. Apple’s sharing interface may show participant names, Apple Account email addresses and membership status. Review the sharing prompt before creating a Home or merging your existing records into one.

This information is not uploaded to the MiseEnList website or a developer-operated app database. Apple operates iCloud under its privacy policy. A shared Home requires iCloud; solo use does not.

You can manage access through the sharing controls in My Home. Removing access cannot recall copies another member has already exported or retained. Leaving a Home or deleting the app does not necessarily delete the owner’s shared records or existing iCloud backups.

4. Connections you choose

Recipe imports and images

When you import a recipe link, the app contacts that website directly. Remote recipe photos may also be loaded from the original website or its image host, including when preparing a recipe PDF. Those providers receive ordinary connection information, such as your IP address and the requested URL, and apply their own privacy policies. Manual recipe entry does not require this connection.

Camera, photos, files and Calendar

Camera and photo access let you scan or select receipts and product barcodes. The file picker lets you choose a receipt PDF or backup. Calendar access is used when you choose a calendar, export meals, open exported events or recover an interrupted export. Calendar entries are handled by the calendar provider associated with the calendar you select.

You can decline or revoke device permissions in iOS Settings. Features that need the declined permission will be unavailable; the other parts of the app remain usable.

Exports, sharing and external links

Backups, purchase CSV files, recipe PDFs and problem reports contain the information you choose to export or share. Full backups include receipt attachments and saved recipe images. These files are readable exports, not password-protected archives. Choose the recipient and storage location carefully.

Opening official food guidance, a recipe source or another external link contacts that provider. Food guidance included in the app is informational; the app does not determine whether your food is safe.

5. Website visits and support

The website consists of two static pages. Its own files contain no advertising, visitor analytics, newsletter form, embedded video or externally hosted fonts. It does not access the records in your app.

OVHcloud hosts the server, where Nginx serves the website through CloudPanel. Cloudflare provides content delivery and security. Website requests can generate logs containing IP addresses, request times, requested URLs, response status, browser information and referring pages. Cloudflare also processes security and network diagnostic information and may use strictly necessary security cookies. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy and OVHcloud’s data protection information.

Support email is configured to forward through Cloudflare Email Routing to a Gmail inbox provided by Google. Cloudflare and Google process your email address, message and attachments to deliver and handle your enquiry. Please include only information needed to explain the issue, and remove unrelated personal details from receipts or screenshots.

Why this information is used

Website delivery, security, troubleshooting and responding to enquiries serve our legitimate interests in running a reliable service and helping people use it. Where correspondence is needed to fulfil a contract with you or meet a legal obligation, that is the relevant basis instead. We do not use support messages for advertising or sell personal information.

Where it is processed

The origin is an OVHcloud VPS; its physical data-centre location has not been confirmed from the hosting account. Cloudflare, Google, Apple and websites you choose may process information in other countries. Their processing locations and applicable transfer safeguards depend on the service. The hosting location, provider agreements and relevant transfer safeguards remain to be confirmed; this draft does not promise that all data remains in the UK.

6. Keeping and deleting information

App records: records stay on your device until you delete them or remove the app and its local data. Device backups may retain copies according to your Apple settings. In a shared Home, deletion and access changes are handled through the app and Apple’s sharing controls; changes need an internet connection to sync.

Copies you export: a file saved to Files, another storage provider or another person is separate from the app. Delete it there if you no longer need it. Calendar events you exported must also be managed in the destination calendar.

Support: correspondence is kept while needed to answer the enquiry, handle related follow-up and resolve a dispute or meet a legal obligation. Unneeded attachments should be removed when an enquiry is resolved. A specific retention and deletion schedule for the support inbox remains to be finalised.

Website logs: the origin server is configured to rotate this website’s access and error logs daily and keep seven rotated files alongside the current file, normally covering approximately eight days. This is the active origin log schedule, not a promise about every provider-held copy. Cloudflare’s edge/security retention and any hosting snapshots or backups still need confirmation. Information retained separately for a specific security incident or legal obligation will be limited to what is needed for that purpose.

We cannot directly retrieve or erase records held only on your device. Use the app’s controls, export a backup if you want to keep a copy, and manage iCloud and device backups separately.

7. Your choices and rights

You can edit your app records, export a backup in Settings → Backup & export, manage shared Home access and change iOS permissions. Choosing to share a Home is separate from adding a household member’s name for meal planning.

For personal information we hold, applicable law may give you rights to access, correct or erase it, restrict processing, and receive a portable copy where that right applies. If processing relies on consent, you can withdraw that consent without affecting processing already carried out lawfully.

You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email support@miseenlist.com and explain the circumstances of your request.

You can raise concerns with us or complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. If you live elsewhere, you may also have the right to contact your local data protection authority.

MiseEnList is a general household organisation app, not a service directed at children. A household member’s name is optional personal content. Avoid entering sensitive details or sharing other people’s information without an appropriate basis.

8. Changes and contact

We will update this page when the app or our data practices change and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be explained before a new use of your information starts where required.
